BULATS Computer TestThe BULATS Computer Test is a unique and effective instrument to test linguistic abilities. It is available in English, German, French and Spanish.The test can be run individually and flexibly in 45 to 60 minutes and does not require specialist supervision. An on-screen help leads candidates through the test. Results are immediately available.The test examines listening comprehension, reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar using an extensive database of exercises. The BULATS Computer Test pinpoints ability quickly and accurately by using ‘adaptive’ testing techniques. Candidates start at the same level, irrespective of their ability. As the candidate progresses through the test, the computer selects the next question on the basis of the previous answers, becoming progressively easier or more difficult until a consistent level of ability is achieved. Thereby it can quickly and effectively assess the level of knowledge in each of the categories and it can be used as effectively with beginners as with proficient learners of the foreign language. All exercises use a business background and realistic work situations of different professions thus allowing for a realistic evaluation of how well the candidate will be able to fulfil his or her tasks at work in the foreign language. The programme can be adjusted to the specific needs of the testing organisation or company via a comfortable menu, for example by determining which personal information candidates are asked to provide, or by choosing the language in which the candidates are guided through the programme.

The software won the European Academic Software Award 2000. The Computer Test runs on Pentium PC and requires a Windows system (min. Windows95). |
